CURRENT OBSESSIONS: A FEBRUARY FULL OF FIRSTS, FANDOM & FABULOUS FINDS
Our February #CurrentObsessions list has each of us brimming with excitement over one-of-a-kind experiences and newly-discovered shows and products. Here’s what we’ve fallen for this month and has each of us totally hooked!
My Current Obsession
One of the best parts of living in Nashville is exploring the vibrant food and entertainment scene, and trying new experiences has become a hobby of sorts – scouring Nashville Guru and NBJ for the latest happenings, “best” lists and new spots to look for. Recently I decided to change things up from my regular “go-to” coffee shops and check out a spot in East Nashville that I had wanted to try for a while, High Garden Tea. I was instantly in awe of the endless array of herbs and teas to explore, and also by the vibe – completely unique and just weird enough to resonate with my inner craving for healthy doses of weirdness! I had my laptop in tow and intended to set up shop for a while, but I quickly learned that this place has a “no laptops” policy and wants its patrons to experience community and face-to-face connection. So I grabbed a coloring book from their assortment of games and activities, drank my tea and took in the sights and sounds of people around me laughing, talking and playing Uno. I’ve gone back since then (with people in tow instead of my laptop), and it’s one of my new favorite spots!

As a high school and college student of the 90s, only using oil-free products on your face was beaten into my head regarding skin care. But now, as a 41-year-old (42 next week) woman, I’m throwing that counsel out the window because of this phenomenal brightening facial oil from Beauty Counter. I’ve been using it for almost a year and to say that it’s been a game changer for my face is a gross understatement. I initially started using it in the evening, mixed in with my night cream to help with the texture of my skin. But soon, I moved to including a drop or two with my tinted moisturizer as a part of my morning regime as well. Wow! I’ve always sought luminous, dewy skin and this product delivers. Plus, it has this yummy citrus scent. I wasn’t super familiar with Beauty Counter before I purchased this facial oil and now I use several other products and have a personal consultant who lets me sample items before I pull the trigger and make a purchase on something new. In fact, last night I tried out their cleansing balm. I’ll let you know how that goes. And here’s what I love about Beauty Counter: their mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. They have a Never List that outlines more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that they’ll never use in their products because they are “committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is legally required in the United States.” Yes, please. More of that.

It’s here! It’s here! I am in full-on, hardcore Olympics mode. I’ve had goosebumps since Friday’s Opening Ceremony. And, I’m sporting my Team USA Shirt. Everyone in my life is already tired of me – whoops! A few events I am super excited for: If predictions are correct, our girl Lindsey Vonn will grab gold in downhill. I am still on a hockey high (go Preds!), so I am excited to see how far the women’s team will go. And, you can’t beat a glass of wine and some figure skating on a cold winter weekend. Check out the full schedule and tell us: which Olympic events are you looking forward to?
I have a confession to make: I love historical dramas. Yes, from “Pride & Prejudice” to “Downton Abbey,” I’ve seen them all. The latest historical drama to rotate into my weekly TV is Masterpiece’s “Poldark.” “Poldark” tells the story of Ross Poldark, a redcoat who returns to England after battle to discover that his father has died, his lands are ruined and his love is now engaged to his cousin. Life is not at all what he hoped it would be and he must figure out what comes next. What ensues is drama, romance, tragedy, action and more, set against the backdrop of stunning English scenery – the perfect combination to make any historical drama successful. Seasons 1-3 are available on Amazon Prime.

Everyone has gotten a gift they didn’t know they needed until they started using it. That’s what happened to me when I received my Apple AirPods. When I opened my present on Christmas Day, I was excited but nervous at the same time! The buds are small, and I was afraid of losing one or both of them. However, my fears went away the moment I started using them. They are compact but large enough to make it tricky to misplace.
After using them for a few months I’m simply obsessed with the quality of the sound and I don’t know how I used headphones with a cord before. The AirPods are great for work calls, listening to music at the gym, catching up on my favorite podcast and watching movies on airplanes! Everyone needs a pair of Apple AirPods because they will change your life. I will never go back to headphones with cords again!
