Current Obsessions: I get by with a little help from my f…avorite new things
May is an extremely hectic time. At work and at home, we have all been running around like crazy people. Some of us had kids wrapping up school. Some of us started new jobs. One of us even got married (congrats to Devin Lee and her new husband, Jeremy!). So, this month, we relied on a bit of self-care and relaxation to make it across the finish line. From good books and healthy eats to new beauty finds and a few of our favorite places, our May Current Obsessions are all about treating ourselves to the little joys in life!
My Current Obsession
I am almost certain there isn’t a single thing New York Times bestselling author and actress Lauren Graham has done that I am not obsessed with. So, this month’s pick is likely not a surprise. Lauren’s latest book, “In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It,” is a quick, impactful read that is perfect for a recent graduate, someone taking a big step in their life or anyone who’s ever had to make a big decision. Here’s just a bit of the soulful, deep and much-needed wisdom from Lauren: “I’ve had ups and downs. I’ve had successes and senior slumps. I’ve been the girl who has lead, and the one who wished she had a bigger part. The truth? They don’t feel that different from each other.” Grab your copy and soak up the goodness!

Zoe’s Kitchen Quinoa (Keen-wah for those of you living under a rock) salad with grilled shrimp kabobs = life-changing. As you may have read in my previous post on having a transformative 2018 my focus for the year is to have a life-giving and nourishing home. I’ve been looking for all kinds of ways to nourish my own body as a part of that. And, this salad fits the bill. It’s full of all kinds of super foods and veggies, including carrots, peppers, cabbage, tomatoes and the like. I enjoy adding a protein and my favorite are the grilled shrimp kabobs (which comes on the skewer with grilled zucchini as well). I promise you won’t be disappointed. I crave it regularly and have it at least once a week, if not more.

I have quite a few allergies and they are primarily chemical-based allergies. This means that I have to be super picky with my makeup and skin products. And, even those labeled “natural” or “organic” don’t always work for me. Lipstick/tint has been especially difficult for me to find. But recently, I discovered Mineral Fusion Sheer Moisture Lip Tint at Grubb’s Grocery. The color is strong (which can be rare in makeup without preservatives), without being overpowering. It’s gluten free, cruelty free, paraben free, artificial color free, fragrance free, talc free, hypo-allergenic and phthalate free. The vanilla-mint flavor is also definitely a bonus! Plus, it hydrates while adding great color. Right now, I am using it in Flicker, but plan to try other colors as well.

My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon and we cannot stop talking about the resort we called home for seven glorious day: Sandals Royal Plantations in Jamaica. With only 75 rooms and a large private beach we were able to enjoy a relaxing week without worrying about finding a beach chair, restaurants reservations or waiting on a strawberry daiquiri. Each room on the resort comes with an ocean view and a butler at your service! We didn’t use the butler that much simply because we kept forgetting about it but I did get French toast delivered while lounging on the beach which was so fun and YUMMY! The resort had everything we could have dreamt of, but the people were really the most amazing part. Throughout our stay, the staff remembered our names, our likes and dislikes, talked to us about Jamaican culture, learned about our home life and continuously made us feel at home. When we left our butler said, “don’t stay away from home for long” and I can promise you we won’t. The Dukes will be back to Royal Plantation very soon!
Sarah’s Current Obsession
If there is one thing I can’t start my day without (besides coffee…) it is mascara. I feel like I am not awake for the day until I open up my lashes. I have been on a constant mission to find the perfect mascara. One that is affordable, lengthening, curling and not clumpy! And guess what- I think I found it. That is why my current obsession is the new Glossier Lash Slick. This mascara is like a dream come true. It lasts all day, it doesn’t flake or smudge under my eyes and it glides right on. I have officially jumped on the Glossier train and I’m not going back!

Shopping is therapeutic, it’s almost a scientific fact. At the end of a stressful day nothing calms me down more than a trip to Red Dress Boutique. This cute store has everything from casual rompers for a summer picnic to business professional blouses for a busy day in the office. Half of my closet is from this boutique because not only do they have the hottest fashions of the season, but it’s all reasonably priced! Red Dress Boutique has one location in Athens, Georgia but they are primarily an online retailer thanks to their appearance on Shark Tank in 2014. Since most of their business is done online, they have perfected the art of describing an item exactly how it appears in real life. I order clothes from this site at least once a month and since I have a vacation coming up I think I’ll check out the site today!
