Blog

The temperatures are rising here in Tennessee, school days are dwindling down, and summer will be here before we know it! As a mom to 3 young girls, we are counting down the days until school is out, so we can celebrate our favorite time of year!

During the summer months, we are way more relaxed around my house: mornings are slower, there are less to do’s on my list and we shift our focus to activities that are full of fun. All of my own routines seem to switch from complicated to simple during the summer months. From my wardrobe to my skincare routine, you will find me following the “less is more” mantra from May through August.

My Current Obsessions

For my birthday, I asked for the Drunk Elephant Littles Collection – I have heard rave reviews, and I am always intrigued with products that are cleaner and safer. I wanted to use a product line that would help me feel more comfortable in my own skin, one that would allow me to go without wearing make-up every single day. And I am happy to report that my skin looks and feels better than it has in years. It is quite pricey, but it has been well worth the investment for me!

During the summer months, my “uniform” consists of a great pair of high-waisted denim shorts and an easy white tee shirt. Day or night, you will find me wearing some variation of this outfit. I love to dress it up with a great necklace or pair of earrings, so I was so surprised with my girlfriends surprised me with this amazing necklace from Anthropologie. They saw me admiring it on a girls’ weekend getaway and gifted it to me afterwards. I wear this necklace at least 3 times a week, and it has become a staple piece for me. It will be a great addition to my summer uniform this year!

If you know me, you know I love unique and handcrafted pieces. One of my favorite pieces is my cowhide backpack from Wild Goose and Decor. I met the owner and designer, Christy, while our daughters were in the same dance class. She has such a great passion for her company, and her bags are so unique and eclectic, and I love supporting a fellow mama. My backpack is my favorite bag to carry, and I always get a ton of compliments when I am carrying it. It’s a conversation piece for sure!

Heather’s Current Obsessions

All American “Friday Night Lights” meets “90210.” Two of my all-time favorite shows (Anyone else excited about the “90210” reboot this summer? Only every girl of the 90s!) combined in one. I recently discovered this gem on Netflix but it’s a regular tv series on the CW. Breakout football player Spencer James moves from his beloved (but hard) Crenshaw to the elite Beverly Hills High when football coach (played by the dreamy Taye Diggs) Billy Baker recruits him to salvage their season and his career. But, naturally, there’s more to the coach’s relationship with Spencer (and his mother). And as Spencer tries to navigate the challenges between his two worlds, friendships are severed, hearts are broken and his role as the bright, shiny new star is questioned. I am ALL IN for this one. A perfect show to binge this summer to be caught up when it returns in the fall.

Tazo Passion Tea I hardly ever drink soft drinks (or Coke as we all call it in the South, regardless of what kind of soft drink you are actually imbibing). As you know from other posts, I try to drink 160 ounces of water a day. I also love sparkling water with lots of lime. My favorite is La Croix. But in the summer months, in particular, I want something else refreshing. And, let’s be honest, sometimes you get TIRED of water. I’m not interested in a lot of calories or sugar, yet still desire great taste. I’ve found the perfect thing – iced passion tea from Tazo. It doesn’t need one thing added to it. The blend of hibiscus with a hint of orange makes it fragrant and fruity. It’s my go-to drink in the summer. And, my boys love when I pour it into popsicle molds and they have a treat after the pool.

Beautycounter Lip Gloss in Dahlia My signature is red lipstick. I’m known for it and am regularly asked for my favorites shades and brands that deliver well and flatter all skin tones. In the summer, I look for a lighter shade to throw on when I’m not wearing much makeup, but still want to feel put together. Nudes and pale pinks are my usual, but I recently tried Beautycounter’s lip gloss and I’m a huge fan. It’s super creamy and not sticky at all. Dahlia is a universally flattering pink that I normally would not have picked up. But, it came recommended by my dear friend who sells Beautycounter and when I tried it, I was immediately sold. Every single time I’ve worn it since, I’ve received compliments on it being the perfect shade for summer. I agree. And, as a huge fan of Beautycounter’s mission to deliver clean beauty products to consumers, leaving out questionable or harmful chemicals, I find this lip gloss to still feel luxurious.

Kerry’s Current Obsessions

We spend a ton of time outside during the summer. Whether it’s gardening, our local Farmer’s Market, pool days, taking walks with our pup, or beach trips, we look for any excuse to enjoy the summer heat. Though I love it, I’ve found that my normal SPF moisturizer does not stand up to the summer sun. I fell in love with Coola’s White Tea face sunscreen when I received it in last year’s FabFitFun box. I have since purchased two more tubes of it. It’s the perfect face sunscreen – it’s not greasy, dries quickly, SPF 50, and smells AMAZING. And, a little goes a long way, so the bottle lasts. I am hooked.

As I mentioned above, we spend many weekends out by the pool. I adore these Simpler Wines for pool days, beach trips, outdoor movie viewings. They truly are the perfect way to sip chilled wine all summer. I add fruit and something sparkling to the Rosé to make a quick and delicious sangria. These adorable cans are a must for summer evenings!

Cleaning is a stress reliever for me, and I truly love the feeling of a clean house. I am always looking for non-toxic, healthy, and environment-friendly options in cleaning products. Grove Collaborative has everything you could ever want! I am a huge fan of their essential oils, and they have great prices on brands like Meyer’s and Method. I recently purchased this daily shower spray in orange and rosemary. It smells incredible and fresh, keeps the shower sparkling for days longer than other products I’ve used, and the glass bottle and concentrate eliminates the need for wasteful plastic bottles. I will definitely be purchasing this again!

Trisha’s Current Obsessions

While washing my hands the other day, I found a white hair sticking out in the middle of my head (thank youuuu, fluorescent lighting). While I don’t care so much about gray hairs, this little situation did serve as a good reminder to take care of my skin in my (late) twenties and beyond. Luckily for me, Kerry serves as the team expert on all things beauty and skincare. She recommended THE ORDINARY “No Brainer” set from Sephora to me a few months ago for proactive anti-aging and I love how it has naturally prepared my skin for a summer glow. The serums make me feel like a million bucks and I can seriously tell a difference in not only imperfections, but also the brightness of my face. Kerry, I’m forever indebted to you (for so many reasons, but add this to the list)!

It seems that you can’t be on the Choice team without falling madly and deeply in love with Anthropologie (looking at you, Sarah Tuttle). While most things are out of my budget, I feel really good about my recent hoops purchase. I am all about some large summer earrings, but sometimes I love the dainty, minimalist look, as well. These hoops from Anthro deliver and are super affordable, too! I’m loving them with a top knot and bandana scarf this summer.

This time of the year is such a fun time. We’re traveling as a family, my husband and I have little weekend getaways planned and Choice celebrates Summer Fridays, which means we pack up for the weekend at noon. Although we’re having fun during and after work hours, there are still important responsibilities, tasks and goals I’m held accountable for. I already talked about Calendly once this month on the blog, but listen, it is essential for summer travel. Calendly links to my Google calendar and allows me to easily (and accurately) offer up meeting times to folks. Plus, Calendly confirms my appointments 24 hours out and offers folks a way to reschedule if needed. I can only imagine how many meetings will be saved this summer as people are traveling. Seriously, I love it more than my luggage.

Devin Lee’s Current Obsessions

I like to have a variety of patterns and solids in my wardrobe so I can continue to mix it up. Cheetah is hands down my favorite pattern because it goes well with solids and several other patterns unfolding stripes and polka-dots. I found these shoes on Amazon a few weeks and cannot stop wearing them. They are incredibly comfortable and give me a little lift, which always makes me feel more confident. The best part is they are under $25 and ship to your house in 2 days with Amazon prime!

Letter boards are trendy but I love them. I’m all about having inspirational messages to look at every day. However, the typical felt letter board did not go with my decor, so I let my inspiration board dreams go until I found the perfect wood board! I LOVE this addition to my home. Looking through Pinterest and Instagram for quotes is so fun, and I love surprising my husband and guests with different sayings. My favorite board quotes have been:
“Life can get cray cray but Jesus is the way way”
“I don’t know whats longer a microwave minute or a treadmill minute”
“90% of marriage is just yelling ‘what’ from another room”
If you’re also looking for a different take of the felt board, look no further!

Next week my husband and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary in Jamaica! As a surprise, my husband gifted me with this piece of luggage that was on my Amazon wish list. I’m a firm believer in not checking a bag, so I’m always lugging my suitcase and a tote on every flight. The strap that fits over the handle of my carry on luggage is what I love most about this bag! I also love the pattern because it will add a little personality to my black carry one!

Sarah’s Current Obsessions

My current obsessions this summer include all of my favorite things: health, skin care, and of course, snacks! A few weeks ago my friend reached out as I was in the market for a new foundation. I have been looking for something new this summer that is light with SPF, however, with a little more coverage! She let me try her Beauty Counter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer for a few days, and let me tell you, I am officially on the beauty counter train! This product is INCREDIBLE! It hydrates my skin and leaves me with a dewy glow. I highly recommend!

One thing that I am always obsessing over is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. I have been using them for years and put a scoop in my coffee every morning! For the summer, they are especially helpful and so beneficial to get those extra nutrients. So what do they do? Collage peptides improve hair, skin, nails, joints, ligaments and tendon health. They are easily digested and absorbed so you see benefits almost immediately!

Snacks are one of my favorite things and I am always looking for healthy new ones. One that I have found to love and treat myself with are Heavenly Hunks! They are made with REAL ingredients and will satisfy your sweet cravings. The oatmeal dark chocolate hunks are my favorite and I think I could eat them every day this summer (but I will resist!)! Grab a big bag this summer and bring them to all the pool parties and cook outs!
